The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has recommends that adults ages 60 and older get vaccinated against shingles. The painful blisters of the disease, caused by the same virus as chickenpox, can lead to permanent nerve damage. Now, doctors have some clues about what increases your risk of getting shingles.
