1.Barack Obama has officially named former rival Hillary Rodham Clinton as his new choice for secretary of state. Obama also announced that Robert Gates will stay on as defense secretary. In a statement, Bill Clinton says his wife is the right person to restore the nation’s image abroad.

2.The United State is calling on Pakistan to cooperate in the investigation into the deadly terrorist attacks in Mumbai, India. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice says Pakistan needs to follow the evidence wherever it leads. India has blamed the attacks on a Pakistani militant group.

3.A woman who served as former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick’s chief of staff has pleaded guilty to a pair of felony obstruction of justice counts in a Detroit courtroom. Under a deal with prosecutors, Christine Beatty will be sentenced to four months in jail and five years of probation.
 
4.The investigation into the accidental shooting of NFL star Plaxico Burress apparently won’t end with Burress himself. Authorities also want to know the hospital that treated Burress failed to report the shooting. And they are trying to speak to New York Giants teammate Antonio Pierce about his own role in the incident. Burress turned himself in to face weapons charges.
