1.The World Health Organization is sending resources to Mexico to get a handle on an illness outbreak tied to a new strain of swine flu. So far, 57 deaths have been reported. Scientists are trying to determine if the same strain sickened eight people in Texas and California.

2.A South Carolina official says the state's worst blaze in 30 years was set by a person burning yard debris. The fire chief says the blaze started last weekend then rekindled and turned into a raging wildfire.

3.Rhode Island authorities say they have fingerprints and other evidence linking accused murder suspect Philip Markoff to a third crime scene. The medical student is charged with killing a 25-year-old New York woman and robbing another woman in Boston.

4.Authorities say the White House was briefly locked down and the US capitol evacuated after a small plane wandered into restricted airspace around Washington. The air scare was over within minutes after military aircraft intercepted the plane.
