1. North Korea's underground nuclear test is drawing condemnation from Washington to Beijing. The UN Security Council is meeting to discuss what President Barack Obama calls a "blatant violation of international law" and a "grave threat" to world peace. 2. President Obama marked his first Memorial Day as president by taking part in the traditional wreath-laying at Arlington National Cemetery. He praised the men and women of America's fighting forces as the "best of America". Obama also sought to avoid a racial controversy by sending flowers to a monument for Confederate soldiers and to a memorial honoring blacks who fought for the Union during the Civil War. 3. Police in New York City say the explosion that shattered windows at a Starbucks may have been caused by a small bomb made from fireworks. Nobody was hurt. Investigators are looking into similarities between the explosion and others that have taken place in the city over the last four years. 4. Pope Benedict has extended his reach to Facebook and iPhone. He called on young people to use technology to spread the word of the Church. |
