1.The White House says environmental adviser Van Jones quit because of the controversy over his past inflammatory statements. Spokesman Robert Gibbs says Jones didn't want to get in the way of the president's agenda. Jones said opponents of reform have mounted a vicious smear campaign against him. 2.Afghan President Hamid Karzai has 48.6% of the votes counted so far in last month's election. Top challenger Abdullah Abdullah has 30.1%. Karzai needs more than 50% to the final vote count to avoid a second round. Election officials say they've thrown out the results from 447 polling sites because of fraud allegations. 3.Seven of the eight people killed in a Brunswick, Georgia mobile home have been laid to rest. The brother of the man charged in the killings insists he did not commit the crimes. 4.A 747 may have the horsepower advantage but it wasn't enough to win the battle against a Porsche race car. The two faced off on the tarmac at Singapore's airport. The event kicked off a series of races in Singapore. |
