1. A lawyer representing a driver who reported his Toyota Prius sped out of control on a California freeway is sticking by his client's story. A congressional memo raises questions about what happened to James Sikes. The attorney says he's unmoved by the memo, saying investigators were unable to replicate the incident during an inspection.

 

2. Authority crews pushed through fallen trees and windblown debris to reach downed power lines, working to restore electricity to hundreds of thousands of homes and businesses as strong winds and heavy rain wreaked havoc in parts of the Northeast, killing several people.
