The United States and European Union have launched fresh sanctions against Russia for its alleged¹ actions in Ukraine. The US measures, including asset freezes and travel visa bans, will impact seven Russian individuals and 17 companies close to the Kremlin. 

Among the seven individuals are Igor Sechin, the president of Rosneft, the Russian state-run oil company. The Chairman of Rosneft’s board is also named. The US Sanctions also list Dmitry Kozak, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation², Oleg Evggenyevich Belaventsev, Russia’s presidential envoy³ to Crimea. 17 Companies were also sanctioned, these fall under Russia’s finance, energy and transportation industries. 13 of these will also be denied US high-tech⁴ exports that could help build up the Russian military. 

Meanwhile, The European Union has also voted to add 15 more Russian names to its own sanctions list, bringing the total individuals to 48 who now face EU asset freezes and visa bans.
