Tuesday is a day to remember for Tibetans, as feudal serfdom ended on the same day 58 years ago. Over one million serfs, or 90 percent of the region's population, were emancipated under the leadership of the Communist Party of China.
Performances across the autonomous region have been taking place to celebrate the anniversary. Serfs' Emancipation Day was established in 2009 to mark the start of Tibetan democracy back in 1959.
Statistics show Tibet's economy grew by more than 10 percent, and fixed assets investment shot up about 20 percent last year, taking a leading place among provincial-level regions nationwide.
