At least 34 people have been killed in a double suicide bombing in the town of Tal-Afar in northern Iraq. The two explosions followed each other in quick succession near a courthouse reportedly used to interrogate¹ terrorist suspects. It's the deadliest attack since US forces pulled out of urban centers at the end of last month.

China says it's back in control of riot-torn Urumqi in the country's west. Thousands of power paramilitary troops are patrolling the streets to prevent further clashes between the Han Chinese and Muslim Uighur Ethnic² Groups. But tensions remain high.

In Italy, the G8 leaders have agreed to try to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions³ by 80% over the next 40 years. Developing nations will be required to reduce their emissions by a lower 50%.The cuts are designed to limit global warming to no more than two degrees above pre-industrial levels. A formal globe climate change agreement is not expected until the Copenhagen conference in December.

And bodies and wreckage⁴ believed to be from a Yemeni Airbus that crashed near the Indian Ocean Island of Comoros last month have washed up 500 kilometers away in Tanzania. The plane's black box flight recorder is still thought to be in the deep water.
