In breaking news: a major earthquake in Haiti has prompted a tsunami¹ warning for parts of the Caribbean, including the Dominican Republic, Cuba and the Bahamas. There are reports the 7.3-magnitude quake destroyed a hospital. We will bring you more news as it comes to us. 

The Federal Government is insisting it hasn’t breached² Australia’s security by flying a group of Sri Lankan refugees here. The government transferred the four Tamils from Indonesia to detention³ at Christmas Island after ASIO deemed they were a security risk. They’ve been refused visas to Australia and the Immigration Department is trying to find a third country to resettle them. 

The United States has angrily denied allegations that it was involved in a death of an Iranian nuclear scientist. The nuclear physics professor was killed when a bomb-rigged motorcycle blew up outside his home in Tehran. The Iranian government says an opposition⁴ group operating under the direction of Israel and the United States was behind the murder. 

And residents of a village in Montenegro have been startled to find a hippopotamus⁵ wandering their streets. Nikica was a resident of a private zoo, but it was flooded and she floated out with the water.
