There are reports of a massacre1 in Libya’s second largest city Benghazi. Doctors there say more than 200 people have died and 900 have been injured. The worst violence happened during a funeral procession when security forces fired machine guns and heavy calibre weapons at protesters.
The family of the latest Australian soldier to be killed in Afghanistan says it was his lifelong ambition to serve his country. Twenty-one year old Sapper Jamie Larcombe was shot and killed during an ambush2 by Taliban insurgents3 in Oruzgan province. He is the 23rd Australian soldier to die in Afghanistan.
And NATO is investigating claims its forces have killed more than 60 civilians4 during air strikes in eastern Afghanistan. The governor of the remote mountainous province of Kunar says 63 people have died in attacks over the past week. He says many women and children are among the dead.
The search resumed this morning for a teenage boy taken by a crocodile at a remote Northern Territory Aboriginal5 community. The 14-year-old was playing in a creek6 with his brothers at Milingimbi when the attack happened. Police say they haven’t given up hope the boy could still be found alive.
