 The Federal Government is promising¹ millions of people will be better-off under its carbon tax plan, but isn't saying how many will be worse-off. The Climate Change Minister Greg Combet says more than half the revenue from the carbon tax will be used to compensate² households. However, he hasn't put a figure on the carbon tax. The Opposition³ says the Government won't be able to deliver on its promise. 

 

International delegates are meeting Libyan rebels in Qatar to try to find solutions to the two-month conflict. Fighters are losing ground despite weeks of air strikes against pro-Gaddafi forces. The rebels are demanding that NATO step up its bombing and they are backed by France and the UK. 

 

Former Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak is in hospital after reportedly suffering a heart attack while in detention⁴. State media is reporting the 82-year-old experienced heart problems during questioning by prosecutors⁵. 

 

And the decommissioned warship⁶ HMAS Adelaide has been sunk off the New South Wales central coast. The operation was delayed by a group of dolphins feeding in the exclusion⁷ zone. The wreck⁸ should be opened to divers⁹ within a month.
