Alibaba has delayed its initial public offering on the New York Stock Exchange until after America's September 1 Labor¹ Day holiday, sources with knowledge of the matter say. CNBC reported that the company had previously² scheduled its listing for early August.

A source close to Alibaba said it wanted to avoid a slow season on Wall Street, with many investors³ taking August holidays, but some investors suggested that the delay was meant to cushion the impact of recent press reports.
