GETTING SOMETHING FIXED³
(between customer⁴ and repairman)

Laurance- How long do you think it'll take to fix² it?
Soony- Hard to tell. Sometimes we can find the problem⁵
right away and sometimes it may take an hour or
two.
Laurance- Should I wait or come back later⁶?
Soony- Suit⁷ yourself⁸, but it's probably⁹ better to come
back later.
Laurance- You will get it fixed today, won't you?
Soony- I don't see any problem. We should have it ready
for you by three at the latest¹⁰. But, better call
before you come.
Laurance- Okay¹¹. Thanks a lot.

注解:
suit yourself=do as¹² you please
by three at the latest=not later than three o'clock,类似的短语还有:
at the most/at the earliest/at the least/at the best/at the worst¹³ 等.

1 dialogue   

n.对话；vi.对话；vt.用对话表达

参考例句：

• Practise the dialogue in pairs.两人一组练习对话。
• The dialogue went on until nine o'clock.谈话一直到九点。

2 fix   

v.使...固定，修理，准备

参考例句：

• I'll try to fix it soon.我将尽快修理它。

3 fixed   

adj.固定的，不变的，准备好的；(计算机)固定的

参考例句：

n.(一套)衣服；起诉；v.合适，中..的意；相称

参考例句：

• That suit is so expensive.这套衣服很贵。
• Which day would suit you?哪一天适合你？

8 yourself

参考例句：

• I need you to do it yourself.我要你亲自做。

9 probably   

adv.大概，或许，很可能

参考例句：

• Next year I shall probably be looking for a job. 明年我很可能找份工作。
• We're going on holiday soon,probably next month.我们很快要去度假了，可能是下个月。

10 latest   

adj.最新的，最近的，最后的，最迟的

参考例句：

• This is the latest hiar-style.这是最新的发型。
• Have you read her latest work?你读过她最近的作品吗？

11 Okay   

(=okey，O.K.)adj./adv.好，行，不错；n.同意

参考例句：

• The play is okay,but I still prefer the book.戏还可以，可我仍愿读原著。
• Is it okay with you if I borrow this book?我借这本书你不在意吧？

12 as   

conj.按照；如同

参考例句：

• He got work in a hotel as a waiter.他在一家旅馆找到了当服务生的工作。
• In the hotel,the old men were drinking away as usual.在旅馆里，这些老人和往常一样喝个不停。

13 worst   

adj.（bad的最高级）最坏的，最恶劣的，最不利的；n.最坏，最坏的时候；adv.最坏，最糟
