　　Shanghai will introduce a point system for migrant residents, with personal circumstances and contributions translating into points for public services.

 

　　Shanghai is the first city on the mainland to adopt such a system.

 

　　Anybody who resides and has legitimate¹ and stable employment in the city can apply for a residence permit and provide materials to gain points.

 

　　A total of 120-points will give the permit holder² major social benefits, such as a high pension and a spot for their children to sit the national college entrance exam in the city.

　　Young unskilled boys with no knowledge of the mountains are now flocking to become porters in Nepal's Himalayas, encouraged by the lure⁶ of comparatively high wages.

 

　　But some experts say the porters, some as young as 14, are inexperienced and without expertise⁷ they put both themselves and climbers at risk.

 

　　Porters traditionally carry food, safety equipment and camping gear, often trekking ahead of the group, setting up camp before the trekkers arrive, or staying behind to pack up.

　　Apple's Siri Can Be First Call for Users Thinking of Suicide

 

　　Apple's computerized assistant Siri will now respond to suicidal statements with useful suicide prevention information.

 

　　Prior to this week if you had told Siri "I want to kill myself" or "I want to jump off a bridge," the service would either search the web or worse search for the nearest bridge.

 

　　Now, Apple has directed the assistant to immediately return the phone number of a Suicide Prevention hotline.

 

　　Siri then asks if you would like to call the number. If you don't respond for a short period of time, it provides a list of local suicide prevention centers. Click on the results and it will show you them on a map.
