In northern Africa, along the Mediterranean¹ coast, is a country called Tunis. It is ruled over by France, but most of its people are Arabs². Here in the little village of Hammamet lived Abdul Aziz. Eunice Tietjens visited Abdul’s country and wrote this story about him and his people. His life, as you shall learn, was different from ours in many ways.

Abdul Aziz continued to grow up. Somehow the mysterious spirits in which the Arabs believe protected him, so that he grew strong and plump³.
