Evening at Home 家人团聚的夜晚

It is winter. The cold wind whistles through the branches of the trees. 现在正值冬季,冷风呼啸着吹过树枝.

Mr. Brown has done his day's work, and his children, Harry and Kate, have come home from school.  布朗先生结束了一天的工作. 他的孩子哈里和凯特也从学校放学回到了家.

One lamp gives light enough for all. On the stool is a basket of fine apples. They seem to say, "Won't you have one?" 一盏台灯把屋里照得够亮.凳子上放着一篮子漂亮的苹果,它们好像在说："你们难道不想来一个尝尝吗?"

Harry and Kate read a story in a new book. The fatherreads his newspaper, and the mother mends Harry's stockings. 哈里和凯特正在读一本新书里的故事.他们的爸爸正在看报纸,妈妈则在给哈里补他的长袜.

By and by, they will tell one another what they have beenreading about, and will have a chat over the events of the day. 一会儿,他们要把所读到的内容讲给彼此听,还要闲聊一下白天发生的事情.
