TWO DOGS 两条狗

James White has two dogs. One is a Newfoundland dog, and the other is a Scotch terrier. 詹姆斯?怀特有两条狗。一条是纽芬兰犬， 另一条是苏格兰犬。

The Newfoundland is a large, noble fellow.  纽芬兰犬是一条高大而名贵的狗。 

He is black, with a white spot, and with long, shaggy hair. His name is Sport. 黑色的身体上缀着白色斑点，以及长而蓬松的毛发。 它的名字叫斯波特。

Sport is a good watchdog, and a kind playfellow.  斯波特是一条很好的看家犬，也是一个友善的玩伴。

Every night he guards the house while James and his father are asleep. 每天夜里，它都在詹姆斯和他爸爸睡觉时看守家门。

In the daytime, James often uses Sport for his horse.  白天，詹姆斯总是把斯波特当马骑。 

He has a little wagon, and a set of small harness which just fits the dog. 他有一辆小马车和一些刚好适合这只狗的小马绳。

He hitches⁵ Sport to this wagon, and drives over the country.  他让斯波特拉着马车驶过整个村庄。

The name of James's Scotch terrier is Dodger.  詹姆斯的苏格兰犬名叫道吉尔。

He is called Dodger because he jumps about so friskily.  它取名道吉尔， 因为它跳得很欢。

He is up on a chair, under the table, behind the door, down cellar, and out in the yard, — all in a minute. 它在一分钟内可以跳上椅子，蹲在餐桌下， 躲到门后，藏入地窖，然后跑到院子里。

Dodger has very bright eyes, and he does many funny things.  道吉尔有一双明亮的眼睛，会做很多有趣的事情。 

He likes to put his paws up on the crib, and watch the baby. 它喜欢把它的爪子扒在婴儿床上看小宝贝。

The other day he took baby's red stocking, and had great fun with it;  有一天，它拿来小宝贝的红色长袜玩弄， 

but he spoiled it in his play, and James had to scold him. 玩的时候却不小心把长袜弄破了。詹姆斯不得不责骂了它一顿。

Everyone likes to see James White with his two dogs.  大家都喜欢看詹姆斯和他的两条狗。

They always seem very happy together. 他们总是看起来在一起快乐无穷。

1 scotch
