每天三分钟学英语 第548期:不用iPhone X就是穷人?根据手机判断一个人的人是Sad people

 

对方看到你用一个比较旧的手机，就开始“阴阳怪气”起来，我们要怎么说呢？

A: Are you still using an iPhone 5? That's amazing.

你还在用iPhone5吗？太不可思议了。

B: It's an SE actually. And so what if I was using one?

实际上是SE。如果我用的就是iPhone5又怎么样呢？

总有些人通过你用什么东西来评价你，非常讨厌！就算我用个旧手机又怎样呢？

So what if…

就算…那又怎么样呢？

举个例子：

① So what if it's expensive? People still buy them.

就算贵又怎么样呢？大家还是会买的。

② So what if you're fat? I still like you.

就算胖又如何呢？我还是喜欢你。

接下来，对方就开始他的“表演”了，我们当然要反击喽：

A: Well, it makes you look poor. Everyone's using the iPhone X now.

那就会让你看起来很穷呀。现在大家都用的是iPhone X。

B: People who judge others based on their phones are sad people. I wouldn't want to get to know any of them.

根据别人的手机来判断别人的人才可悲。这样的人我一个都不想认识。

通过一个人用什么手机，穿什么衣服，就来评价他是怎样的人？呵呵

根据…来判断…

举两个例子：

① I don't like Mina's friends. They judged me based on my clothes.

我不喜欢Mina的朋友们。他们根据我的衣服来判断我。

② I don't judge people based on their appearance. I judge them based on their personality.

我不会以貌取人。我根据他们的性格来判断。

Sad people

可悲的人

可以说 something is sad 或 someone is sad，来形容一件事或一个人的可悲。

在口语中的举例：

① People who are on their phones all the time are sad people. They're missing¹ out on life.

一直玩手机的人都是可悲的人。他们错过了生活。

② People who gossip² are sad people. It means their lives are boring.

爱说闲话的人是可悲的。这意味着他们的生活很无聊。

我们最后再补充一句：

I wouldn't want to get to know any of them. 这样的人我一个都不想认识。

1 missing   

adj.遗失的，缺少的，失踪的

参考例句：

• Check the tools and see if anything is missing.检点一下工具，看有无丢失。
• All the others are here;he's the only one missing.别人都来了，就短他一个。

2 gossip   

n.流言蜚语，爱说长道短的人；vi.传播流言

参考例句：

• She broadcast the gossip all over the town.她将这个流言传遍全镇。
• They spread a lot of tacky gossip about his love life.关于他的爱情生活，他们散播了许多不堪的闲言闲语。
