　　Fifty years of isolating² Cuba had failed to promote democracy, it set us back in Latin America.

　　That's why we restored diplomatic relations, opened the door to travel and commerce, position ourselves to improve the lives of the Cuban people.

　　The point is American leadership in the 21st century is not a choice between ignoring the rest of the world except when we kill terrorists; or occupying and rebuilding whatever society is unraveling.
