Imagine how you'd feel if all the photos from your life were washed away and lost. For many thousands of Japanese people affected¹ by the 2011 earthquake and tsunami², that's exactly what happened. But in the town of Yamamoto, at least, they weren't lost forever. The emergency services have collected 750,000 photos from amongst the wreckage³ and computer researcher Yuji Mizoguchi has volunteered to lead a project to digitise them and then reunite them with the families who lost them.
