Imagine how you'd feel if all the photos from your life were washed away and lost. For many thousands of Japanese people affected1 by the 2011 earthquake and tsunami2, that's exactly what happened. But in the town of Yamamoto, at least, they weren't lost forever. The emergency services have collected 750,000 photos from amongst the wreckage3 and computer researcher Yuji Mizoguchi has volunteered to lead a project to digitise them and then reunite them with the families who lost them.
