New efforts to resolve the Syrian conflict are underway in Kazakhstan. The negotiations1 have been convened2 by Russian and Iran who support the Syrian government, along with Turkey which backs the opposition3. It's the first time a team made up exclusively of armed rebel groups has negotiated with the government, though the first
session won't be face-to-face.
The former Gambian President, Yahya Jammeh, who's finally given up power after losing last month's election, has been accused of looting the country before his
departure. A special adviser4 to the Gambia's new president, Adama Barrow, says more than 11 million dollars are thought to be missing from state coffers.

And Hungary is holding a day of national mourning for the victims of a coach crash in Italy. 16 people died, most of them pupils and teachers returning to Hungary from
a skiing holiday in the French Alps. The coach crashed on the motorway13 near the Italian city of Verona on Friday night and was engulfed14 in flames.
