If exams have the final say over students’ performance, students will know only how to answer test questions. But academic credits are only a small part of education assessment5. When students start working, their skills in communication, in solving real problems and in originally and independently dealing6 with the world are essential factors for their success. Let exams dominate the school calendar, the education pattern will be self-propagating, nobody knowing what and why they learn.
But we still have reasons to be optimistic. Education administrations could try to plan the quality-oriented education in schools. If text books are accordingly changed and teachers trained, children tomorrow will certainly be creative instead of copycats.
