看《公主日记》学口语

 　　本期我们学习几个地道的英语口语表达。有些短语看上去简单，到我们自己说英文的时候却怎么都想不起来用。话不多说，开始学习。

　　1. hang up

　　Lily：I can’t believe that you hung me up after all I did for you.

　　莉莉:我不敢相信在我为你付出之后，你却把我晾在那儿。

　　Notes: hang up表面意思是“把……挂起”，在这里就是这个意思，不过用了比喻的修辞手法。例：

　　I hung up my jacket.

　　我把我的夹克衫挂起来。

　　除此之外，hang up还有“挂断电话”，“搁置，中止”的意思。例：

　　She hung up the phone.

　　她把电话挂断了。

　　Our plan has been hung up.

　　我们的计划被搁置了。

　　Their talks were hung up for five days.

　　他们的会谈中止了五天。

　　2. keep a secret

　　Lily: I kept your royal secret.

　　莉莉:我替你保守你是皇室公主的秘密。

　　Notes: keep a secret 保守秘密，例：

　　I can trust you to keep a secret.

　　我相信你可以保守秘密。

　　再好的朋友也可能会争吵，这段Mia好友的内心独白堪称经典。

　　I didn’t mean it , just the green monster of jealousy¹ came out because you were Miss Popular and I thought I was losing my best friend. So I got angry and upset and hurt and… I told you. I need an attitude adjustment.

　　我不是故意的。只是嫉妒心在作怪，因为你很受欢迎，而我觉得我就要失去我最好的朋友了。所以我会生气，沮丧，觉得受伤。我告诉过你，我需要时间调整心态。

　　the green monster of jealousy, Miss Popular用在这里很生动啊~

　　3. blow up

　　Lana: My friends and I were wondering the sweater your are wearing, was it designed for you or did the knitting² machine just blow up?

　　啦啦队的拉娜：我和朋友们在想，你穿的这件毛衣，是为你量身定制的还是编织机爆炸了?

　　Notes: blow up 爆发，爆炸，例：

　　Why did you blow up the house?

　　你为什么炸掉这个房子?

　　此外，口语中，blow up还可表示“发怒，责骂”。例：

　　He felt sorry he blew up at you.

　　他为对你发脾气感到抱歉。

　　My father will blow me up if I don’t finish my homework.

　　如果我不把作业做完，爸爸会骂我的。

　　生活中似乎总是有些人是毒舌，喜欢拿别人开涮，比如这个Lana.但蜕变后的Mia已经学会勇敢地反击，保护自己和朋友了。于是，Lana的啦啦队队服竟然和冰激凌看起来很搭。

　　4. go with anything

　　Mia：This is such a cute cheerleading outfit³. It’s so clean-cut. I bet⁴ it goes with anything.

　　米亚：这件啦啦队队服真可爱，干净清爽，裁剪合身，我打赌它能搭配任何东西。

　　当某件衣服，饰品很好搭配时，我们就可以用go with anything这个短语。

　　Notes: go with:伴随，与…相配。例：

　　The scarf goes with your shirt.

　　这条丝巾和你的衬衫很配。

　　5.adapt to

　　Mia：Everybody’s got pre-coronation jitters⁵ including me. Everybody except Fat Louie. He’s totally adapted to being a royal.

　　米亚：包括我在内的每个人都为即将到来的加冕礼感到紧张，除了胖路易。他对皇室生活很适应。

　　Notes: adapt to:使适应，使适合

　　adapt oneself to: 让自己适应于，习惯于…

　　It's not easy to adapt to the weather in London.

　　要适应伦敦的天气不容易。

　　I’m trying to adapt myself to the diet here.

　　我正努力适应这里的饮食。

　　最终，Mia华丽转身，成为了合格的皇室继承人，这和她的努力密不可分;我们也要和Mia一样勇敢自信，在学习语言的路途中迎难而上，华丽转身。

1 jealousy   

n.妒忌，嫉妒，猜忌

参考例句：

• Some women have a disposition to jealousy.有些女人生性爱妒忌。
• I can't support your jealousy any longer.我再也无法忍受你的嫉妒了。

2 knitting   

n.编结物；接合，联合；[外科]骨愈合v.（使）愈合( knit的现在分词)；编结，编织；（使）紧密地结合；织平针

参考例句：

• Weaving and knitting are traditional cottage industries. 编织和针织是传统的家庭手工业。
• manipulative skills such as typing and knitting 诸如打字、编织这样的技能

3 outfit   

n.（为特殊用途的）全套装备，全套服装

参考例句：

• Jenney bought a new outfit for her daughter's wedding.珍妮为参加女儿的婚礼买了一套新装。
• His father bought a ski outfit for him on his birthday.他父亲在他生日那天给他买了一套滑雪用具。

4 bet   

v.打赌，以(与)...打赌；n.赌注，赌金；打赌

参考例句：

• I bet you can't do this puzzle.我敢说，你解决不了这个难题。
• I offered to bet with him.我提出与他打赌。

5 jitters   

n.pl.紧张(通常前面要有the)

参考例句：

• I always get the jitters before exams. 我考试前总是很紧张。
• The whole city had the jitters from the bombing. 全城居民都为轰炸而心神不宁。
