缅甸众议院议长将访问美国
YANGON, June 7 (Xinhua) -- Speaker for Myanmar's House of Representative (Lower House) U Shwe Mann will lead a parliamentary delegation to pay a goodwill visit to the United States soon, said the local Union Daily Friday without specifying the date of his visit.
Shwe Mann will make the trip at the invitation of U.S. Congress Speaker John Boehner and the U.S. government, the report said.
Shwe Mann's announced Washington visit comes after Myanmar President U Thein Sein's working visit to the United States in late May, which marked the entry into a new and higher stage of Myanmar-U.S. relations.
During U Thein Sein's May visit, Myanmar and the United States reached a trade and investment framework agreement, creating a platform for ongoing dialogue and cooperation on trade and investment issues between the two governments.
U Thein Sein, at a roundtable discussion between ASEAN Business Council and U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington, vowed Myanmar' s readiness to work with international investors as equal partners.
Myanmar and the United States also reached consent during the visit over U.S. technical assistance for the development of Myanmar's oil and gas sector.
Meanwhile, the new Myanmar-U.S. Trade Council announced establishment of its branch offices in Yangon, Washington and New York, calling for lifting of all remaining U.S. sanctions on Myanmar to facilitate access to an undeveloped consumer market in Myanmar which is rich in natural resources.
