China is getting tougher on pollution by lowering the criteria1 to define related crimes.
he Supreme2 People’s Court and Supreme People’s Procuratorate have issued interpretations4 of what constitutes such crimes. A pollution case will be defined as a crime if it poisons more than 30 persons, slightly injures more than three, and severely5 injures more than one.
A case will be deemed the most severe if involves more than one death, when previously6 it was three. The interpretation3 also sets standards for punishment, including for the mishandling of radioactive, infectious, and poisonous wastes.
