The 8th round of the Strategic & Economic Dialogue between China and the US has opened in Beijing. The event will last two days.

The dialogue has both a "Strategic Track" and an "Economic Track". State Councilor Yang Jiechi and US Secretary of State John Kerry will co-chair the "Strategic Track", while Vice Premier Wang Yang and US Secretary of the Treasury Jacob Lew will co-chair the "Economic Track".
High-ranking officials from the two countries will discuss issues such as advancing bilateral relations, deepening pragmatic cooperation, and managing differences and sensitive issues. Chinese President Xi Jinping addressed the joint opening ceremony.
"Thanks to our concerted efforts, our two countries (China and the US) have cooperated at the bilateral, regional and global levels in a wide range of areas, registering new programmes in our relations," said President Xi.
"We witnessed record highs in trade and two-way investment, enjoyed closer people-to-people and sub-national exchanges, and made new headway in cooperation in cyberspace, law enforcement and military-to-military exchanges."
"We issued three joint statements on climate change and worked together with other countries for the conclusion of the historic Paris agreement."
