Bush Says Middle East Has Become 'Cauldron of Violence'

President Bush is issuing yet another appeal to Palestinian and Israeli leaders to bring violence to a halt. Mr. Bush is urging 1)restraint at a time when tensions are escalating1 on a daily basis.
President Bush says the Middle East has become "a 2)cauldron of violence." And he says the 3)bloodshed must come to an end.
During a visit to a park in the state of Colorado, Mr. Bush again called on Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat to clamp down on suicide bombers2. At the same time, he said the Israelis must show restraint.
The president spoke3 in response to a question about the nighttime Israeli military raid on the Palestinian-ruled city of Jenin in the West Bank. The Israeli army said the operation was in response to a series of bombings by Palestinian militants4. Tanks and 4)bulldozers were used in the Israeli 5)incursion, and they 6)demolished the Palestinian police 7)headquarters in the town.
