 ew satellite images have identified 122 distinct objects in the southern Indian Ocean and they could be debris¹ from Malaysian Airlines flight 370. Some of the objects are more than 20 meters long, and have been spotted² in a 400-square-kilometer area of ocean. More bad storms are likely, however, to hamper³ the search today.

 

Police are looking for four men after a double shooting in the western Sydney overnight. Two men were shot at a patrol station in Maryland in a suspected armed robbery. A man in his 50s was shot in the side of the chest and is in a critical condition. A twenty-year-old man has four gunshot wounds to his stomach and his arm.

 

Lachlan Murdoch is returning to a new role at the top of his father’s media empire. Mr. Murdoch has resigned from Network Ten to become co-chairman of News Corp. and 21st Century Fox. His brother James has also been given a promotion⁴.

 

Labor⁵ says selling Medibank Private will cost the government up to half a billion dollars a year in dividends⁶. The Federal Government says it intends to sell the health insurer in a public float next financial year. 

 

Former Prime Minister John Howard says he would refuse a knighthood if it was offered to him. Mr. Howard has told the financial review many Australians, even conservatives, would consider the government’s decision to reinstate knighthoods as an equisetic.
