The federal government is proposing an overhaul¹ of the GST system, which will see the smaller states receive a greater share of GST revenue. Treasurer² Scott Morrison says the seven billion dollar plan will guarantee each state at least 75 cents in every dollar of GST revenue raised. Western Australia is set to benefit the most. The government's proposed model rejects the system recommended by the Productivity Commission after its year-long review.

British counter-terrorism police have confirmed that two people who collapsed³ in the town of Amesbury in southern England were exposed to the nerve agent Novichok. Uk authorities say there is currently no evidence to suggest that the couple were deliberately⁴ targeted. An investigation⁵ is looking at whether the incident is connected to the poisoning of a former Russian spy and his daughter with the same nerve agent four months ago.

Thai authorities are continuing preparations to rescue 12 boys and their soccer coach trapped in a cave in northern Thailand. Officials say that the group is practicing using basic diving gear. Authorities are also draining water from the cave before expected storms arrive which could again flood the cave and delay any escape. The boys — aged⁶ between 11 and 16 — have now been trapped for 12 days.
