The Chinese government is calling on Japanese leaders to keep the promises made after the end of World War II and maintain regional peace and stability.

The call follows word that Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe plans to alter the wording of the 1995 Murayama statement, which acknowledged the "tremendous damage and suffering" inflicted¹ on people across Asia by Japanese imperial forces.

The Foreign Ministry² says China and the world community are watching the issue closely, waiting to see how the Japanese side will address their country's history of aggression³ in Asia and beyond.

China and Turkey have pledged to make joint⁴ efforts in fighting terrorism.

The consensus⁵ was reached during a visit to Beijing by the chief of the Turkish National Police.

China's Minister of Public Security has told the Turkish official that terrorist cells like the East Turkistan Islamic Movement pose serious threats to both nations.

He urged the two sides to make full use of their cooperative platforms, including a joint working group, to improve anti-terror cooperation.

Earlier this month, it was revealed that police in Shanghai had detained 10 Turkish nationals last November, who allegedly provided assistance for terror suspects in China's Xinjiang helping⁶ them to flee the country.
