Chinese and European Union leaders have sent out messages of congratulations to mark the 40th anniversary of the China-EU diplomatic ties which is today.

In his message to European Council President Donald Tusk¹ and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, Chinese President Xi Jinping is hailing the strategic importance of the China-EU relationship.

For their part, both Tusk and Juncker have sent out a similar note, saying the two sides should continue working together for the peace, prosperity and sustainable development the world at large.

Chinese Premier² Li Keqiang has also sent out a series of congratulatory messages to EU leaders.

China's top economic regulator is launching a 6-month check on the prescription³ drug market following its decision to remove controls on most medicine prices.

The probe is meant to try to detect any price manipulation.

Local authorities are being told to set up an online platform for better price monitoring.

Price controls on most prescription medicines are being lifted starting next month.

This is widely expected to see prescription drug prices rise, as price controls have been in-place in the drug market for years in China.
