 We now turn to a serious medical threat,to one of the world's top athletes,superstar olympian Ian Thorpe.He is battling an infection that could end his career,even cost his arm.ABC's  here with the details with xxx here.

    Thorpe could have got this infection actually in the hospital.Yes,it's stunning¹ exactly how he contracted that infection.Ian Thorpe is in an Australian hospital this morning receiving what were told is the best care possible but even that might not be enough to prevent the former swimming champion from losing what he loves the most.

    He is one of Micheal Phillps biggest rivals with five Olympic gold medals an twenty-two world records.(one of the hardest-working athletes in this pool ),but this morning Ian Thorpe's future as a competitive swimmer could be sinking.(Thorpe takes the semi-final)the swimming legend is being treated in his native Australia for a dangerous infection.Some media reports say the disease is similar to the potentially deadly morsey infecton and that is so bad that he might risk losing use of his left arm.(Ian has been very unlucky with sort of all the attempt to get back in the pool ).

    Thorpe's agent James xxx telling the Australian Associate Press the former champion is quite sick with a serious but not a life threatening condition that he contracted at a Swiss hospital after a series of shoulder surgeries.

    Hospitals are incredibly dangerous places that is where the bad bugs² live.one in twenty-five people who go into the hopital will pick up an infection.A lot of them from surgeries. 

    Thorpe is a hero in his native Australia..where swimming is a national sport and the press follows his every move.

    He is Micheal Phillps.He is Micheal Jodan.He is the biggest deal in Australian sports.This is just the latest setback³ for a man who has been treading water since he retired⁴ in 2006.He failed in his attempt for a comeback at the 2012 London Olympics and earlier this year was treated for depression at a rehab facillaty.Ian Thorpe is an Olympic god.How sad that he is fighting this,that he is dealing⁵ with this infection and that he is in a hospital bed.He's gone through a lot.
