Welcome to Spotlight1's listener2 mail program. I'm Joshua Leo
Voice 2
And I'm Robin3 Basselin. Spotlight uses a special English method of broadcasting. It is easier for people to understand, no matter where in the world they live.
Voice 1
Our first comments today are about the program "Ice Cream Around the World". People around the world love this smooth, cold treat made with milk and sugar. In this program, we told about the history of ice cream. In the past, it was a very special treat for rich people.
Voice 2
Augusto was one listener who wrote about this program:
Voice 3
"I loved this delicious program. I learned4 a lot about the history of ice cream. It was interesting that only rich people and emperors could taste ice cream. It was also interesting to know how they developed methods to produce it. The kinds of ice cream around the world were very good to know about. I was surprised when I heard about Salcedo's ice cream in Ecuador, where I live! I have to visit this city to taste this delicious ice cream."
Voice 2
In the program, we also looked at the many different kinds of ice cream that people enjoy. Different places make different kinds of ice cream. Augusto knew of one special kind of ice cream that we talked about in the program.
Voice 1
Patrick is another listener who wrote about Salcedo's special ice cream. He said,
Voice 4
"Every time I listen to Spotlight, I discover new things. I usually go to Ambato, and I always stop in Salcedo to buy those delicious ice-creams."
Voice 2
Thank you for your comments Augusto and Patrick! So listeners5, what is your favorite kind of ice cream? Does your country have a special kind of ice cream? Leave a comment on our website to give your opinion: http://www.radio.english.net.

Our next comment is about a different kind of food: pomegranates! These fruits are round and red, about the size of an orange. The skin is hard, and inside there are hundreds of delicious red seeds. In the program "The Pomegranate: A Great Fruit", we talked about a new project that uses this ancient food.
Voice 2
Pomegranates have become very popular around the world. This is because they are very healthy. In particular, many people like to drink the liquid from the fruit as juice.
Voice 1
Taichi is one listener who visited our website, found the script6 page for this program, and wrote a comment:
Voice 5
"Sometimes my mother buys some pomegranates from the store. They taste quite good but I do not know how to eat them in the best way. Would you tell me a way to make it as a delicious liquid juice?"
Voice 1
Thank you for this interesting question! Pomegranate juice is delicious, and it is easy to make. You will need just two tools. The first is a blender. In some countries a blender is called a liquidizer. It is a small electric tool. It has a container on a base, with a sharp metal blade7 at the bottom. When it is on, the blade turns very fast. The second tool is a strainer. The strainer is like a round bowl with many holes in it. You will use it to separate8 the liquid from the solid9.
Voice 2
The first step is simple. Carefully open the pomegranate skin. Remove the seeds. You can do this in water. The seeds will fall to the bottom. The thin white membrane10 and thick red skin will rise to the top. This way, it is easy to separate the seeds from this other material. The membrane and skin are not good to eat!
Voice 1
Next, use the blender. Put the seeds in the blender. Add some water and sugar. Turn the blender on. The blade will cut the seeds into small pieces. And the juice will come out! Now, you can just drink the juice. It will be full of small hard pieces of the seeds. Or, you can remove these pieces! Put a piece of cloth in the strainer. Pour the juice through the cloth. You can pull more juice from the seeds by pressing the cloth with a spoon. Five pomegranates should give enough juice for two people. Enjoy!

We have included a link with more instructions on our website. Just look at the script page for this program.
Voice 1
Next, we move on to a more serious subject. In the program, "Prudence11 Sings" we told about a musical group from Zimbabwe. The group is called Liyana. These musicians all have physical disabilities, but their music has made them famous.
Voice 2
On the script page, Marisol commented:
Voice 6
"Sometimes, you think that to succeed you need many resources12. In fact, you only need the desire to do things in a different way, to take chances and keep the hope. This is a real example that you can make things change!"
Voice 2
Patrick also shared some thoughts about this story. In particular, he wrote about the main singer of the group, Prudence Mabhena:
Voice 4
"This real story is a bit sad, painful and amazing. It shows there are no limits, to your soul or your brain. Many people have achieved their dreams only thinking they can do it. This girl Prudence has a great heart and a wise mind."
Voice 1
Thank you for these comments! At Spotlight, we really enjoyed the music of Liyana, and their story. We hope that many listeners felt the same way.
Voice 2
Finally today, we have an email to share. Carl wrote to Spotlight from Canada. He asked:
Voice 7
"Do you know any other programs similar to yourself that broadcasts in different languages? For example, French or Spanish? It sounds like an excellent way of learning13 the language."
Voice 2
We also think this is a good idea! We do not know of any programs like Spotlight in other languages. But maybe one of our listeners does. Listeners, do you know of any similar programs to Spotlight? We at Spotlight would also like to use something like this to help us practice other languages! Write to us at radio at English dot net. Or leave a comment on the script page for this program.
