The gallows², ye mean. — I am immortal³ then, on land and on sea, cried Ahab, with a laugh of derision; — "Immortal on land and on sea!" 啊，你的意思是绞架吧。——那么，我是不朽的喽，在海上在陆上都是不朽的，亚哈带着一阵嘲笑声，叫道；"在海上，在陆上，都是不朽的！"

The grey dawn came on, and the slumbering⁴ crew arose from the boat's bottom, and ere noon the dead whale was brought to the ship. 天已破晓，那些酣睡着的水手都从艇肚里起身了，午前就把那条死鲸拖到大船侧来。

and the eager mariners⁷ quickly run to the braces⁸, and would stand there with all their eyes centrally fixed⁹ on the nailed doubloon; 那些精明的水手则连忙跑到转帆索的地方去，呆在那里，大家的眼睛都贯注在那只钉着的金币上；

impatient for the order to point the ship's prow¹⁰ for the equator. 迫不可耐地盼望着那个把船头掉向赤道的命令。

In good time the order came. 命令终于按时下达了。

It was hard upon high noon; and Ahab, seated in the bows of his high-hoisted boat, 当时正是快近午刻的时分，亚哈坐在他那只高高吊起的艇头，
