VOA双语新闻 US Pledges 'Transparent' Probe

The United States Friday promised a full and open investigation¹ of the allegation of Koran desecration² at the Guantanamo Bay detention³ facility that has touched off anti-U.S. protests in the Muslim world. U.S. officials hope the demonstrations⁴, some of them violent, may be subsiding⁵.

What will satisfy people in the field, I don't know for sure. All I know is that we'll be true to American principle. We will respect other religions. Bush administration officials have gone to some length to stress their concern about the matter, including Secretary Rice who began a Senate appearance Thursday with an appeal to Muslims around the world to reject any incitement to violence by those who she said would mischaracterize U.S. intentions.
