第8课 谈论工作

A: What are you going to do now, Millie?

A：你准备找个什么工作，米利？

B: I don't know. I had to give up my hope of being a mathematician¹. My college days are over and I have to be realistic² about myself.

B：我不知道。我不得不放弃当数学家的念头。现在大学生活已经结束，我得现实地对待自己了。

A: What is that?

A：此话怎讲？

B: My grades in math weren't high enough. I couldn't live up to the goals my parents set for me.

B：我的数学考分不够高，达不到我父母曾给我定下的目标。

A: You did well in college. I don't think you let your parents down.

A：你在大学期间学的不错，我认为你没有让你父母失望。

B: Perhaps.I wish they could tell me to my face how they really feel.

B：也许吧。我希望他们能对我当面谈谈他们的真实想法。

A: Why don't you tell them what you'd like to be?

A：你为什么不告诉他们你想干什么呢？

B: Perhaps I will. I used to want to be a teacher. I think my parents would like that.

B：也许我会告诉的。从前我一直想当老师，我想我父母对此会赞成的。

A: It's important for you to understand each other.

A：你同你父母之间互相理解是很重要的。

B: Yes,you are right.

B：是的，你说得对。
