 　　A:Have you ever heard of the phrase "school phobia"?

　　A：你有没有听说过“学校恐惧症”这个词？

　　B:No, never. What does it mean?

　　B：从未听说过。什么意思？

　　A:It means some children have a strong, unnatural¹ and usually unreasonable² fear and dislike for school. Some children refuse to attend school because of separation anxiety, These are mostly younger children who are less accustomed to being away from hcxne. I think parents are really responsible for this.

　　A：意思是有些孩子对学校有一种极其不自然的、过度的恐惧和厌恶。有些孩子拒绝上学，因为害怕和家庭、父母分离而产生焦虑。这主要是一些小一点的孩子，不习惯离开家。我认为父母对此负有主要责任。

　　B:I disagree with you. I think the reason lies at school. The school just doesn't pay enough attention or give due care to each child.

　　B：我不同意你的看法。我认为原因在于学校。学校并没有做到对每个孩子都给予足够的关注。

　　A:I am lost there. What do you mean?

　　A：我被你弄糊涂了。你什么意思？

　　B:I mean some children dread³ school because they are trying to avoid uncomfortable feelings associated with school. They may fear being criticized or evaluated. A few are truly frightened by a particular activity, such as riding the school bus or attending an assembly.

　　B：我的意思是，有些孩子害怕学校是因为学校会让他们产生不舒服的联想，孩子竭力避免这种感觉。他们可能害怕受到批评或评价。还有的孩子害怕某种活动，比如乘坐校车或参加集会。

　　A:Before the children start schooling⁴, their parents should try every means to prepare their kids for school life. Otherwise, many children will attend school with great discomfort⁵. They tend to be highly anxious and lack the skills needed to handle social interactions.

　　A：在孩子上学之前，他们的父母应该使孩子为学校生活做好准备。否则，许多孩子上学会有很大的不适。他们往往极度焦虑、缺乏处理基本的社交活动所需要的技能。

　　B:However, it is known to us that many school events involve disciplinary methods which are punitive⁶ in nature and attack the child's self-esteem, The teaching methods of the teachers should really be reformed so that children's needs can be met.

　　B：可是。我们知道，很多学校的活动都会采用训诫性的方法，本质上是惩罚性的，会伤害孩子的自尊心。教师的教学方法也应该改革，这样才能满足孩子的需求。

　　A:Children whose skills are weak in areas needed for school success may encounter demands beyond their abilities. In that case, parents should do more to adapt their children to the new environment.

　　A：有些孩子在某些方面的技能较差，而这些技能又是在学校获得成功所必需的，那么他们在能力方面就会受到挑战。那样的话，父母应该承担起更多的责任，使孩子适应新的环境。

　　B:The school should try to develop a supportive and encouraging setting where the child may thrive.

　　B：学校也应该尽量创造支持性的、鼓励性的环境，在这样的环境里，孩子们才会茁壮成长。

1 unnatural
