　　A:Did you read today's newspaper?

　　A：今天的报纸看了吗？

　　B:Anything interesting?

　　B：有什么搞笑的？

　　A:There's a story about how a UK computer security consultant¹ has snared² a hapless computer hracker who made blackmail³ threats to his company.

　　A：有篇报道，说英国有一电脑黑客企图勒索一家公司，结果被那公司的电脑安全顾问给抓获了。那家伙可真够倒霉的。

　　B:Did he use some advanced technology?

　　B：那电脑顾问用什么先进技术了？

　　A:No. On the contrary, he used a rather simple method一the teleptxxie callback facility.

　　A：没有。恰恰相反，他用的是一种极其简单的方法---电话回叫功能。

　　B:Aha, he used old ways to deal with new tricks.

　　B：啊哈，老办法对付新问题。

　　A:Well, he said the hracker tried to gain access to the company's computer systems and claimed to have damaged information about the company's security. He threatened to release this if he was not paid a cash ransom⁴.

　　A：嗯，他说那家伙企图进入他们公司的计算机系统并宣称他已经破坏了与该公司安全有关的信息。他威胁说如果不给赎金，他就要把这些信息公布出去。

　　B:But the unlucky guy called with a fixed⁵ phone,didn't he?

　　B：但这个倒霉的家伙是用一固定电话打的，对吧？

　　A :Yeah. He made the fatal mistake of calling from his own home and forgetting to disable the callback facility. The consultant took his mumber down and passed it on to CCU(Computer Crime Unit) who did a fantastic job.

　　B:Then he might not be very professional.

　　A:Guess what? The hracker turned out to be a 12-year-old schoolboy.

　　B:Wow, he may just do it for fun, I guess.

　　A:You can hardly believe the trnth that he had nevertheless succeeded in crashing e-mail servers causing 2,000,000 worth of damage.

　　B:What a genius! But was the poor guy sentenced?

　　A:The lad was arrested at school and charged for breaching⁶ sections 1 and 3 of the Computer Misuses⁷ Act.

1 consultant   

n.顾问；会诊医师，专科医生

4 ransom

5 fixed   

adj.固定的，不变的，准备好的；(计算机)固定的

6 breaching   

攻破( breach的过去式 )； 破坏，违反

7 misuses   

n.用错，滥用( misuse的名词复数 )；误用者v.使用…不当( misuse的第三人称单数 )；把…派作不正当的用途；虐待；滥用
