 　　LESSON 38 COUNT TEN 第三十八课 数到十

　　Fred had got a new spade from his aunt. She had sent it to him one day with a small box of seeds. Fred从阿姨那得到一把新铲子。一天阿姨把一盒种子和铲子一起给了Fred。

　　As soon as he got it, he went out to dig with it in his own bit of ground at the back of the house. Fred在得到不久就出去在房子后面的自己的空地上用铲子挖坑。

　　Jane went with him; and as he dug, she stood near him and talked to him. She held the box of seeds in her hand. Jane和Fred一起，在他掘地时，Jane就站在旁边和他说话。她手里拿着这盒种子。

　　Fred did his work with a will, and he did it well, too. Fred带着意愿工作，他做的很好。

　　As Jane stood and talked, she let the box of seeds fall on the ground. The lid of the box came off, and all the seeds fell out. 当Jane站着说话时，这盒种子不小心掉到了地上。盒子的盖子开了，所有的种子都出来了。

　　Poor Jane was a good, kind girl. She was much vexed¹, and said so to Fred. But Fred did not speak to her. 可怜的Jane是个很好的善良的女孩。这让她很恼火，她对Fred这样说道。但是Fred没有和她说话。

　　"O Fred," cried she,"why don't you speak to me?" Fred，Jane大喊着，“你为什么不和我说话？”

　　"I wished," said Fred, "to wait till I could count ten." 我想等我数到10再和你说”Fred回答道。

　　Count ten!”said Jane. "What do you mean? Why do you wish to count ten?" 数到10！”Jane问道，“什么意思？你为什么要数到10？”

　　"Oh,"said Fred, "aunt once told me to count ten before I spoke², if ever I felt angry. I know that I am often hasty³ to you, Jane, and I want to correct myself." 阿姨曾经告诉我，如果我很生气，那么在我开口之前要数到十。我知道我总是对你很凶，Jane，我想更正自己。”Fred说。

　　“O Fred, how good you are! It was very careless of me to let the box of seeds fall; but see, I have picked them all up again, and here they are, ready to put into the ground." Fred，你太好了，我的粗心让这盒种子掉了，我已经把它们都捡起来了，他们在这里，我们把他们放进地里吧。”

　　The seeds were planted, and day by day Fred and Jane came to watch them grow up. At last a lot of small green blades peeped above the ground, and soon grew up, with pretty flowers, greatly to the delight of the children. 种子种好了，Fred和Jane一天天的过来看他们生长。最后很多绿色的小叶破土而出，很快长大，开了很多花，给孩子们带来了很大的快乐。

　　And if still you angry be,Count again. 如果仍然生气，接着数。

1 vexed
