Hello, Jessica Askin updating ABC News.
The Prime Minister will attend the inauguration1 of Indonesia's President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in Jakarta today. The leaders are expected to discuss people smuggling2 and any plans for Indonesia to accept asylum-seekers on their way to Australia.
The government’s demanding the Opposition3 back up its proposal on emissions4 trading with detailed5 costings. The Climate Change Minister Penny Wong met the Opposition leader yesterday. They lay down the foundations for negotiations6, but the government first wants to know how much Mr. Turnbull’s amendments7 will cost.
The votes from more than 200 polling stations in Afghanistan will be declared invalid8 because of fraud. The UN-backed Electoral Complaints Commission says President Hamid Karzai now does not have enough vote for outright9 victory. Mr. Karzai could now face a runoff against his nearest rival Abdullah Abdullah.
And firefighters in central Queensland have spent the night backburning around Rockhampton. The bushfire in the Mount Archer10 National Park has been burning for 11 days. Authorities were concerned the blaze would threaten nearby homes. But the fire slowed down overnight and crews took advantage of the light winds.
And there’ll be more news later.
