The Transport Workers Union has lost acourt battle with Qantas over industrial action by baggage handlers two years ago. The stop work meeting in March 2009 caused major delays at airports around Australia.The Federal Court has found that TWU and its officials breached1 the Workplace Relations Act by taking action when its enterprise bargaining agreement was still current.
Mining giant BHP Billiton is expecting a decision this year from Federal and state governments on the proposed expansion of uranium and copper2 mine in South Australia's north.The expansion would create up to 10,000 jobs. The mine contains the world's biggest known uranium deposit and also produces copper and gold.
The eurozone's economy has recorded better-than-expected growth in the first quarter of the year. The economy grew by 0.8%. That's up from 0.3% the previous quarter. Germany was largely responsible. It grew 1.5% driven by strong domestic demand.
And the local share market was boosted by those better-than-expected economic growth figures out of Europe.
