US special counsel Robert Mueller has broken his silence about the Russia investigation1 — and says charging Donald Trump2 was not an option. In a statement in Washington overnight, Mr Mueller also announced his retirement3 from the Justice Department as he officially closed the investigation. Speaking publicly for the first time since he was appointed head of the inquiry4, Mr Mueller emphasised that his report did not exonerate5 the president. President Trump says Mr Mueller's statement changes nothing and that the case is closed.

Mr Assange was due to take part via video link from the London prison where he is serving a 50 week sentence for skipping bail10. His lawyers have managed to have the hearing delayed until mid6 June after it was revealed Mr Assange has been moved to a medical ward11 in the prison.
