A US airstrike in Baghdad killed Iran's top general. The US said the general was planning attacks against American diplomats¹ and service members.

Iran's supreme² leader vowed³ harsh retaliation⁴ for the killing⁵. Soldiers from the army's 82nd airborne division arrived in Kuwait. President Trump⁶ has ordered hundreds of troops to the region amid escalating⁷ tensions.

Tens of thousands of people are being told to leave parts of Australia due to wildfires. Navy ships are picking up some people from beaches, firefighters are escorting convoys⁸ of evacuees⁹ down roads.

The Utah Department of Transportation triggered an avalanche¹⁰ east of Salt Lake City. They did this to prevent larger and more dangerous snow slides in the area.
