delivery
take-out
Delivery
Hi, I'd like to order some delivery.
Hi, I'd like to get XXX (food) delivered.
Let's get delivery.
Can I get XXX delivered please?
For here or to-go?
For here or take-out?
这是快餐店、或常做外卖生意的饭店会问客人的;
To-go
Take-out?
pick-up-“自取”
If you're in your office or at home, the restaurant is nearby:
Hey, I'd like to order pick-up:我要点,然后自取
If you can't finish the food, you can get a "doggy bag": 如果点的菜没吃完,剩下的可以打包(get a doggy bag)
Left-over: 外卖
When you talk about getting food delivered, probably pizza is the NO.1 thing:
At least early on in the delivery game:
I feel like it was always either pizza or Chinese food:
Over the years, it's definitely expanded to include all kinds of different food:
Spencer
Do many Americans deliver pizza as their first part time job?
Actually high school kids don't usually work as pizza delivery guys since you'll need a car:
It's usually 20 or 30 something good for nothing people:送披萨的很多是20、30岁混日子的人
Third-party delivery services/apps:
They have actually been around for a while in America:
One of the first that ever came out was called "Takeout Taxi":有一家很早做的叫“Takeout Taxi”
But back in the day, they had a real high service charge:
Rice bowl:
In China, rice bowl is probably our equivalent3 to pizza:
It's not just plain rice in a bowl. It has food on top of the rice:
Rice bowl has become extremely popular in America too, especially the Korean Bibimbap or Japanese style rice bowls:
You don't just get rice bowls in Asian restaurants. They're everywhere:
Even salad bars will have salad rice bowls:
It's something in a bowl,everything in a bowl:
The idea is it contains everything: carbohydrates4, veggies, proteins:
It's like what they serve at Chipotle: 就像Chipotle快餐店的风格
You choose the base. You want white rice or brown rice. On the top of that, you can add this or add that:
You build your own food:
Other things I've got delivered include subs:
Subs are sandwiches made from baguette or long pieces of bread: sub
They resemble the shape of a submarine:
They're called subs, but they taste way better than Subway:
Subs don't need to be toasted: subs
Bagel sandwiches are also good: 贝果三明治也很好吃啊!
通常他们去一种叫deli的小饭店。这些专做快食,很多也没有堂吃;
Deli
Rice noodles
Guilin rice noodles:
Pho
It's huge in China, not so much in America:
The only time I've seen 麻辣烫 outside of China was in Flushing6:我唯一一次在中国以外的国家看到麻辣烫,是在纽约的法拉盛,那儿是著名的新移民华人社区
The soup upsets your stomach:
It's very oily. It's a little bit too much for me:
Punchy flavors:
Kebabs and gyro are also very popular in the States:
There is a place in New York that people line up for at the stand called Kebab brothers.
hole in the wall places:
Americans are very innovative9 with food from different places:
For example, ramen burger and American style Chinese breakfast wraps:
The latest trend is sushi burrito:
It's the size of a huge burrito, but made from rice. Can you imagine eating so much rice?
If there is enough fish to go with it, I think that will be very delicious:
What have you guys done to Asian food? It's supposed to be very delicate:
Sushi burrito
It's quick and easy, cheap and dirty but it tastes good. Who cares?
App
By my own admission, I've never used any delivery apps: App
Neither have I: 我也没用过
I cook a lot:
For lunch, I like to get out and get some fresh air and grab some food:
Speaking of which, let's go do that after the recording:
