　　Usually at work, you'll have an office Christmas party, but not a New Year's party: 通常，公司会有圣诞派对，但可能没有新年派对

　　People are not working during the New Year: 大家新年都放假了

　　When it gets closer to Christmas, many people are travelling home, so you need to hold parties earlier: 临近圣诞，大家都要回家过节，所以要提前办，方便大家参与

　　不是in advance?

　　In advance通产用在预定机票这样的搭配里，而不是办派对

　　Book your tickets in advance

　　Party RSVP: 收到派对邀约, 先要RSVP

　　With any party or event invitation, you usually need to RSVP: 派对、活动邀约，通常都需要RSVP

　　＊RSVP来自法语的Répondez s'il vous pla?t Please respond的意思，即确认出席＊

　　在邀请函上，你通常会看到：

　　Party dress code: 派对穿什么？

　　Dress code: 着装要求

　　Many parties and events will have a dress code: 很多派对、活动会有着装要求

　　总体可分为：

　　1) Casual: 休闲

　　2) Formal: 正式

　　先说休闲，也有很多类：

　　Business casual: 商务休闲，通常要穿西服外套

　　Smart casual: 雅痞休闲，不用穿西服外套也Ok

　　Casual: 最休闲的

　　Jacket/blazer：西服上装外套

　　Suit: 整套西服

　　You usually don't need to wear a tie for business or smart casual: 通常这两种休闲都不需要带领带。穿比较好的西服外套、配合身的深色牛仔裤就可以

　　但是，鞋子很重要！

　　You need to wear dress shoes: 要穿正装皮鞋

　　＊这里的dress不是指裙子，而是正装的意思＊

　　说完休闲，说正式：

　　Formal: 正式

　　Black tie: 最正式的，通常指宴会，比一般西服更加隆重的黑西服、黑领带、或者领结

　　Black tie doesn't mean you can only wear ties in black: 黑领带也不是说一定要黑色的领带

　　Black is the safest, other dark colors are fine: 黑色最安全，其它深色也可以

　　Black tie means dressed up: black tie的寓意就是正装

　　Dressed-up: 隆重打扮、盛装出席

　　Bow tie：领结

　　Tuxedo/tux: 晚装西服，比如结婚的时候会穿的那种

　　Since not everyone is a Christian⁹: 因为不是所有人都信基督教

　　It's very PC (politically correct): 是个很政治正确的说法

　　But it makes some people really angry because they see their religion and culture not being respected: 但这也让很多人很生气，觉得自己的信仰被侵蚀

1 etiquette   

n.礼仪，礼节；规矩

• The rules of etiquette are not so strict nowadays.如今的礼仪规则已不那么严格了。

2 mid   

adj.中央的，中间的

参考例句：

• Our mid-term exam is pending.我们就要期中考试了。

3 kindly   

adj.和蔼的，温和的，爽快的；adv.温和地，亲切地

参考例句：

• Her neighbours spoke of her as kindly and hospitable.她的邻居都说她和蔼可亲、热情好客。
• A shadow passed over the kindly face of the old woman.一道阴影掠过老太太慈祥的面孔。

4 mandatory   

adj.命令的；强制的；义务的；n.受托者

参考例句：

• It's mandatory to pay taxes.缴税是义务性的。
• There is no mandatory paid annual leave in the U.S.美国没有强制带薪年假。

5 attendance   

n.出席，出席人数，护理，照料

参考例句：

• The attendance of this class never dropped off.这个班的出席人数从未下降。
• The young man danced attendance on his rich aunt.这个年轻人小心侍候他有钱的姑妈。

6 cocktail   

n.鸡尾酒；餐前开胃小吃；混合物

参考例句：

• We invited some foreign friends for a cocktail party.我们邀请了一些外国朋友参加鸡尾酒会。
• At a cocktail party in Hollywood,I was introduced to Charlie Chaplin.在好莱坞的一次鸡尾酒会上，人家把我介绍给查理·卓别林。

7 prank   

n.开玩笑，恶作剧；v.装饰；打扮；炫耀自己

• It was thought that the fire alarm had been set off as a prank.人们认为火警报警器响是个恶作剧。
• The dean was ranking the boys for pulling the prank.系主任正在惩罚那些恶作剧的男学生。

8 tone   

n.语气，音调，气度，色调；vt.（up）增强

参考例句：

• There was a tone of mockery in his voice.他说话的语气含有嘲笑的意味。
• Holmes used an informal,chatty tone in his essays.霍姆斯在文章中语气轻松随便。

9 Christian   

adj.基督教徒的；n.基督教徒

参考例句：

• They always addressed each other by their Christian name.他们总是以教名互相称呼。
• His mother is a sincere Christian.他母亲是个虔诚的基督教徒。
