The English side Arsenal¹ entered the competition looking to make the group stages for a 17th straight season. And they were away at the Turkish side Beşiktaş, it was a 0-0, Beşiktaş though almost scored from the kickoff when Demba Ba hit the bar from the half way line. While Arsenal had their midfield player Aaron Ramsey sent off for two yellow cards, and his manager Arsène Wenger was far from happy with the match referee².
