状语从句与雅思写作

 　　什么是状语从句：

　　首先我们要搞清楚什么是状语。状语是修饰动词、形容词、副词用的；那么有主谓结构的句子担任的状语就称之为状语从句了。

　　状语从句由从属连词所引导，既可置于句首，也可置于句末。状语从句根据它们的含义又可细分为八种：时间、地点、原因、目的、结果、方式、让步和条件。

　　那么状语从句在实际的写作中是如何得到应用的呢？笔者从雅思考官的范文中摘录了一些典型例句，供读者欣赏、学习。

　　雅思考官如何使用状语从句（8分-8.5分）：

　　（备注：雅思写作8分，官方的评价是“very good user”,而9分则属于“expert user”。一般而言，写作7分就已经属于较高的写作分数了。）

　　But the difficulties start when we try to define¹ what the “proportion” of the budget should be.

　　I am her only surviving relative in this country, so I felt I had to go and see her immediately.

　　They feel this is one area of life where they have the right to make decisions for themselves.

　　Italy’s spending on personal stereos² is only marginally greater than that of France, while spending on toys is equal between the two.

　　Happiness is very difficult to define, because it means so many different things to different people.

　　Because people interpret³ happiness for themselves in some many different ways, it is difficult to give any definition⁴ that is true for everyone.

　　In many countries, the birth rate is decreasing so that families are smaller with fewer children.

　　These children are often spoilt⁵, not in terms of love and attention because working parents do not have the time for this, but in more material ways.

　　When they get to school age they have not learnt any self control or discipline.

　　If they could raise them to be considerate of others and to be social, responsible individuals, the whole community would benefit.

　　While some people think this may be damaging to a child’s development, or to a child’s relationship with his or her parents, in fact there are many advantages to having school experience at a young age.

　　This is often not possible at home because they are the only child, or because their brothers or sisters are older or younger.

　　They still spend plenty of time at home with their parents, so they can benefit from both environments.

1 define   

vt.解释，下定义，阐述，限定，规定

2 stereos   

立体声( stereo的名词复数 )； 立体声音响器材

参考例句：

• Stereos have been the ordinary household products. 立体声音响装置已经成为普遍家庭用品。
• What do you do when you're not buying stereos?Finance revolutions? 你不买音响的时候都干些什么？融资革命吗？

3 interpret   

vt.解释，说明，理解；vi.作口译

参考例句：

• We have to interpret his words in a modern light.我们不得不用现代观点来解释他的话。
• Please interpret the comments of our foreign guest.请把外宾的话翻译一下。

4 definition   

n.定义；限定，确定；清晰度

参考例句：

• The book attempts a definition of his role in world politics.该书要阐明的是他在世界政局中的作用。
• I made a definition for this word.我给这个字下了定义。

5 spoilt   

adj.（孩子）宠坏的；惯坏的；（食物）变质的；spoil的过去式和过去分词v.变质( spoil的过去式和过去分词 )；损坏；毁掉；破坏

• The film is spoilt by unrealistic contrivances of plot. 这部电影被不实际的牵强情节给毁了。
• Our camping trip was spoilt by bad weather. 天气不好，破坏了我们的露营旅行。
