Is there something wrong with your table? 你桌子坏了吗？

有时我们提醒别人可以不直说，间接说，比如：

Is there something wrong with your drink? 你的饮料不好喝？（干嘛喝我的？）

Walt: We talked about this. 我们说过这事了。

Boss¹: I'm shorthanded. 我现在缺人手。

A: Can I borrow² some money? 能借我点钱吗？

B: We talked about this. I'm not gonna lend³ you any money. 我们说过这事了，我不会再借给你钱了。

Shorthanded 缺人手

Two people just left Dana's company⁴ so they're pretty shorthanded. You could⁵ probably⁶ get a job there easily⁷. 有两个人刚从Dana的公司离职，所以他们那缺人手。你现在去那找工作可能会比较容易。

Girl student: Oh, my God⁸. You would⁹ not believe¹⁰ who's cleaning Chad's car. White from Chemistry¹¹. 天哪，你肯定不会相信谁在洗Chad的车，化学课的White老师。

1 boss   

n.老板，上司；v.指挥，控制

参考例句：

• When the boss gets mad, leave him alone.当老板生气时，不要理他。
• I'm my own boss.我自己当自己的老板。

2 borrow   

vt.借，借入，借用；vi.借

参考例句：

• Can I borrow two books at a time?我可以一次借两本书吗？
• You can borrow this dictionary from the library.你可以从图书馆借到这本字典。

3 lend   

v.把…借给；借给

参考例句：

• Would you lend me some money?能借我一些钱吗？
• They had no reading books to lend.他们没有阅读用书可以出借。

4 company   

n.公司

参考例句：

• Is this your company?这是你的公司吗？
• Which company was that?那是哪家公司？

5 could   

v.能，可能(can的过去式)；aux.v.(can的过去式)能；可以

参考例句：

• Could I open the window?我可以打开窗子吗？
• I could wait ten minutes.我可以等十分钟。

6 probably   

adv.大概，或许，很可能

参考例句：

• Next year I shall probably be looking for a job. 明年我很可能找份工作。
• We're going on holiday soon,probably next month.我们很快要去度假了，可能是下个月。

7 easily   

adv.容易地，轻易地，顺利地

参考例句：

• Money that is easily come by is often easily spent.钱来得容易往往也花得容易。
• Let's not take the car,we can easily walk over. 我们不用坐车，走着去很方便。

8 god   

n.上帝，神；被极度崇拜的人或物

参考例句：

• God knows how the cat got up on the roof.只有天知道那只猫是怎样爬上房顶的。
• God wills that man should be happy.上帝愿人类幸福。

9 would   

aux.will的过去式；愿，要；常常；大概；将要，会

参考例句：

• Why would you say that?为什么你会这么说？
• Would you please help me?你能帮帮我吗？

10 believe   

v.相信；认为

参考例句：

• Believe it or not,that's the way it is.信不信由你，反正事情就是这样。
• I believe what you say.我相信你的话。

11 chemistry   

n.化学，化学作用

参考例句：

• He is reading a text in chemistry.他在看化学教科书。
• Her major subject is chemistry.她的主修科是化学。

12 saw   

vbl.看见(see的过去式)；n.锯；v.用锯子锯

参考例句：

• Would you like to saw a tree for me?你能为我锯棵树吗？
• The moment I saw you,I knew you were angry with me.我一看到你，就知道你在生我的气。
