At least thirteen people are known dead after massive mudslides in areas of southern California recently burned by wildfires. The worst damage is northwest of Los Angeles where mud and boulders¹ swept away dozens of homes.

A federal judge blocked President Trump²'s decision to end the DACA program. DACA stops immigrants brought to the US illegally as children from being deported³. Trump says he wants Congress to work out the issue.

South Korea's President says he wants more talks with North Korea about that country's nuclear program. Moon Jae-in also says that he would meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un under certain conditions.

The US Centers for Disease Control says influenza⁴ has been reported in 46 states. It also says the number of cases went up sharply in late December, especially in southern states.
